The Stylish Procrastinator's Guide to: FALL WEDDINGS

Designers want me to dress like spring, in billowing things. I don’t feel like spring. I feel like a warm, red autumn.

Wedding invitations need a restaurant buzzer attached to them that goes off when you’re less than a month out from the event date. I can’t tell you how many last minute / late night web searches I’ve conducted to find something, order it, and get it here within the final hours!

I decided to help out you fellow procrastinator’s by ransacking the internet of the best fall wedding guest attire.

I always keep two things in mind when dressing for a wedding:

  1. This is not my day, therefore being the “best dressed wedding guest” is irrelevant.

  2. If I know the bride well, can I lean into her tastes in any way, therefore celebrating her?

Our closets all operate on a spectrum. For instance, some days I’m intensely feminine with a full skirt + heels and some days I’m more quirky masculine with a paper bag trouser + a loafer. That being said…

How can you lean in to the bride’s style? Is she a little more dark glamour? Retro romantic? Minimal and chic? Without compromising your own style, see how you can celebrate your friend on such a memorable event in her life through by way of your ensemble. I promise when you start there, being a wedding guest is a piece of (wedding) cake!

For last minute events, I always think renting is the best option. It’s usually less expensive than buying something you bought in a pinch and will probably never wear again.

Below I’ve highlighted a rainbow of dress rentals from Rent the Runway! As well as some inexpensive add-ons to complete your look.

A romantic nod fit for the occasion! Keep the pearl party going with this pearl studded bag and don’t forget a chic overcoat. Nothing ruins an outfit more than an ill-planned top layer—after all, it’s a forgotten aspect of a first impression!

Everyone’s favorite color for this time of year! My goal was to find more of an eggplant-hued dress but I ultimately loved how easy this shade is to style. Grab a classic camel coat and these unique maroon strappy sandals for an easygoing vibe.
