4 Unexpected Fall Color Combinations to Try

Color is my day-long obsession, joy and torment.

Summer allows me to mix bright colors endlessly, but too often I start to feel a like a box of toppled over crayons and begin to crave the rich colors and heavy fabrics that arrive with autumn.

Lately I’ve been playing around with contrasting the brights of summer with the jewel tones of fall to help the transition between seasons to feel a bit more seamless.

I never thought I could successfully pair together fuchsia, navy, burgundy, with a touch of blush until this outfit came together. It obviously helped that I had a sweater with a multitude of colors as a jumping off point!

Below I’ve compiled 4 other color pairings I’m encouraging you to try this fall! Not only will you stand out among the sea of warm jewel and neutral tones, you’ll liven up your wardrobe to work even in off seasons.

These looks are head-to-toe two colors to really show off the pairing, but even trying one or two pieces of either of these combinations would look dynamite!

OUTFIT DETAILS

Sweater: ASOS. Trousers: Boden. Collared Shirt: Thrifted. Bag: Who What Wear, similar here. Heels: Sam Edelman. Earrings: Beehive Boutique, similar here. Sunnies: DIFF Eyewear.

BURGUNDY + HOT PINK

Few things pair better with hot pink than rich burgundy. A typical fall color paired with such a punchy color makes for a great stand out look.

WHERE TO WEAR: Dinner with girlfriends, movies in the park, meeting the parents at Thanksgiving, date night at a comedy club.

Hot Pink Turtleneck | Pleated Plaid Midi Skirt | Burgundy Leather Jacket | Pink Chain Shoulder Bag | Burgundy Lace Up Boots | Hot Pink Oval Earrings | Burgundy Circle Buckle Belt

ETC…

LEMON + BEIGE

Beige isn’t boring when paired with a pop of electric lemon! I love how this look plays with different textures from a shiny satin to a slick patent ending with a cozy knit.

WHERE TO WEAR: Rainy day errands, Sunday brunch with a girlfriend, early holiday shopping.

Beige Mock Neck Sweater | Bright Yellow Satin Midi Skirt | Beige Trench Coat | Patent Yellow Mini Bag | Snakeskin Ankle Boots | Yellow Acrylic Hoops

ETC…

OLIVE + ORANGE

Another quintessential fall color made new with a squeeze of orange. While I love a full suit look, this double breasted blazer felt like more of a stand alone piece with an olive pant to complement. So 70s with the heel shape, oversized sunnies, and paisley print blouse.

WHERE TO WEAR: Business meeting, seeing a play at the theatre, dinner out with the in-laws, job interview.

Orange Double Breasted Blazer | Olive Wide Leg Pants | Orange Paisley Button Up | Olive Suede Court Shoe | Orange Square Sunnies | Olive Croc Crossbody | Marble Resin Hoop Earrings

ETC…

MAROON + TAXI YELLOW

Yes, I am aware maroon is basically burgundy. I think burgundy is slightly more purple, but I digress. This look is SO fun to me from the checkerboard earrings to the bright yellow sock boots. Wear the jumpsuit unzipped to subtly show the band tee!

WHERE TO WEAR: Late night movie, live music at a bar, bff’s birthday celebration.

Maroon Corduroy Boiler Suit | Nirvana Tee | Yellow Heeled Sock Boots | Maroon Captain’s Cap | Yellow Checkerboard Earrings | Maroon Chainlink Crossbody

ETC…
